Happy chatterings...

Miguel and I never had a honeymoon, although we'll be married 5 years this July!   We kinda' got married in a ramshackle way, eloping because I didn't want my parents to have to pay for anything.  I've always kinda' felt bad that we couldn't really afford to go on a honeymoon or any vacation just the two of us at all, for that matter.  Any time we have had a vacation, we've had other people along, which is great, but we *really* need some alone vacation time.

I have so much coming up this year... so much that it's making any future vacation look impossible.  I've been working like mad, trying to save money so we can actually do this.

But I had 2 strokes of incredible good luck this week!!

Firstly, I got a dealer table at MFF.  I was already planning on trying for an artist alley table... but there is only so much money one can pull in at an alley table.  Not having a stable location and the ability to have a display really hurts sales.  I've been on the waiting list for a dealer table since early May, and wasn't really expecting to get one... but one opened up!  Because of that, I should be able to make more than enough to book a vacation to Disney at the end of January, right after FC!

The second stroke of good luck is perfect timing!  I go on the Disneyworld site at least 3 times a week to check pricing for different times of the year on resort packages.  I almost booked a vacation in October, since they had a free meal plan deal going, but I only would have been able to afford a value resort hotel at that time.  Those who know me know how much I *adore* children, so this was going to be a big compromise for me.  Those value resorts just scream child trap.  I fully understand the fact that it is Disney, and there's gonna' be a lot of kids - but as a childfree person, I do my best to not put myself in places where I'm basically asking for it.

I had a budget in mind, and had picked out a moderate resort stay that just skirted under my budget.  However, there is a special running right now where I can get a ton of money off a moderate resort hotel!!  So now, I am about 900 dollars UNDER my budget!  This, coupled with the fact that I have an MFF table means I should be able to book the vacation in a few weeks!  :D :D  I was even able to make it a 9 day long trip because of the savings!

I am so excited and actually happy!  I don't think I've felt this happy in forever.  I am finally going to go on a vacation with my husband.  I'm probably driving him crazy chattering about it, but I am so delighted.  We will be going at the end of January through the beginning of February.  I'll also have FC money on hand as a backup, in case anything goes wrong while we are there.

I'm going to keep working hard, but I am so incredibly thankful for this turn of events. :)

Yeah, it seems like they have some sort of special running every few months. We are planning on going in the off season, so it's super cheap! :D

Congratulations! I'm glad to hear you'll be getting the chance to do this, and I surely understand what you mean by wanting to do the resort experience up right. One of my favorite things to do when I'm at WDW is to visit the resort hotels and just soak up the atmosphere and see all the little details. I wish more hotels out there took the time to make their interiors as satisfying to occupy as Disney does. Do you know which place you'll be staying at yet? My favorite resorts to explore are the Wilderness Lodge, Polynesian Resort, and the Contemporary Resort.

Yeah, I intend on taking the bus around to all the resorts to check them out! I'd LOVE if we could do the Polynesian, but we probably have to stick with the moderate resorts. I let him pick, and he likes Coronado Springs.

My mother and step-father stayed at Coronado Springs earlier this past March when we all visited and I think it's a great choice. It's a spread-out rather than vertical resort so you might potentially have a lot of walking to do depending on how far your room is from the main entrance, but it's nothing terrible and with all the walking you'll be doing on the park grounds you'll probably be in good shape anyhow. ;) Good news is that your timeframe avoids the oppressively hot summer temperatures, but the bad news is you might not be able to enjoy the awesome swimming pool they have.

Take it from me: you can enjoy most of what is offered at the Polynesian just by entering the resort and walking through it. The decor, the restaurants, the view, the monorail, the walk along the beach. Awesome. You might even consider making a stop there for dinner via the monorail after you're finished for the day at the Magic Kingdom. If the day is pleasant try making the walk to this location: (look for the green arrow)
You can just sit there and enjoy the quiet of the wind, water and appreciate the view. Love it!

It's funny cause Coronado is the only resort I have actually stayed at, but Miguel likes that one the best!

Although I just did the number crunching and found I can afford Animal Kingdom Lodge - do you think that would be a better choice?

And I will make it a point to walk around the Polynesian. It looks so beautiful!

We actually hit Disney World as part of our honeymoon extravaganza 3 years ago. My wife feels it is very important to keep checking back at the website while logged in, as they seem to do a little/some/a lot of data mining and will start sending you out offers more tailored to what you were looking at.

Also... never fail to mention at the front desk that it's your honeymoon. Trust me!

Ha ha, I don't know if it could really be called a honeymoon, since we've been married for 5 years already, but I'll give it a go!

Well, it may be belated, but I think it still counts! Besides, you're totally more in love now than even when you were married.

And because I like to confuse myself, we actually honeymooned in California, but we did go to Disney World last year. We ended up staying at the Animal Kingdom Lodge. There are definitely resorts that are far more convenient for walking/mono-railing, but I did like being away from the central parks a bit.

Would you happen to know how much nicer Animal Kingdom lodge is overall compared to some of moderate level resorts? I found out I can afford Animal Kingdom and we were originally thinking of Coronado Springs. It's a $500 price difference, so I was wondering if it was worth the extra money...

Unfortunately that's something I wouldn't really be able to comment on. We did go to some of the other resorts for different events, and one thing that I liked about the Animal Kingdom was that it was basically the end of the line. Folks weren't just passing through there on their way to some place else, so there wasn't half as much traffic.

When we went to the Polynesian resort it was absolute madness... I don't know if it was just a combination of the luau going on (or how often those are), but also that the monorail disembarks right in the resort... so everybody and their dog from EPCOT can cruise on in.

I think the biggest "failing" of Jambo House was that the breakfasts weren't anything really special... just rather cafeteria style, unless you did the breakfast upstairs (which I think took more of the meal plan to do).

I was a real fan of the look and feel of the lodge... and having the ability to grab a coffee and wander out of the hotel and watch the zebra and giraffe... that was great!

That being said, I did take a fair number of photos around Animal Kingdom (including the room) and can post them if they're interested.
